Barbara Kruger was born January 26, 1945. She is an American conceptual artist, collagist, and author. Her work is mostly black-and-white photos with declarative captions. These captions are written in Helvetica Ultra Condensed or Futura Bold Oblique white. Her works often use pronouns like “you”, “your”, “I”, and “we”, to address cultural constructions of power and identity. She is known for her blend of type and picture that passes on an immediate feminist cultural activism. Her works inspect generalizations and the practices of industrialism with text layered over broad communications pictures.[citation needed]
Kruger lives and works in New York and Los Angeles. She is a Distinguished Professor of New Genres at the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture.
